HCI in Siegen: We are intercultural!
The Master programme of Human Computer Interaction (M.Sc.) is the oldest of its kind in Germany. It is an international programme one where lectures, seminars and practices are taught in English. German courses are available as an additional offer.
We now have over three years of experience in the field of internationalization and, together with our students, benefit from our ‚lessons learned‘. Since we are a small course of studies, everything is very familiar, which is why the close cooperation with our students has enabled us to constantly improve in the field of intercultural communication and cooperation. This is also reflected in our new study design and admission requirements which are more open to interdisciplinarity.
We would really like to encourage you to become one of our international students in our Master program. You get the unique chance to learn together with our diverse group of highly motivated and skilled students. You also have some of the best researchers in the field equipping you with the skillset you need to do outstanding research based design.
Systems for Humans
A good, sustainable and human-oriented interaction design is of great relevance for the success of socio-technical systems. For that reason, students of the HCI Master degree in Siegen are given a solid and wide overview of methods and techniques for a well-founded conception, design, implementation and testing of IT systems for humans. For this we stand with our many years of expertise in this field as we have been the first HCI program in Germany.
Praxeology and Context
Classic usability often focuses on (quantitative) laboratory studies. In Siegen, we are convinced that this is not enough, as it reduces human involvement to a minimum. For that purpose, our work resides particularly ethnographically (qualitatively) on the field, directly in user practice. That way, systems are developed in direct cooperation with end users (Grounded Design).
Research and Teaching
Research and teaching are mutually connected in Siegen. Students work usually in the scale of research projects, which are also undergone with cooperation of the industry. Not only a large research relevance and possibilities of real academic work are part of such projects, but also a strong practical experience.
